Installation
Owl is an events and calendar plugin for Craft CMS 5. Install it from the Plugin Store inside the control panel, or with Composer.
Requirements
- Craft CMS 5.6.0 or later
- PHP 8.2 or later
- MySQL or PostgreSQL (whatever your Craft install already uses)
- Craft Commerce 5.0+ — optional, only for the Pro edition’s ticketing
Editions
Owl ships in two editions. Lite is free and includes recurrence, ICS feeds, GraphQL, multisite and front-end submission. Pro ($149) adds native Craft Commerce ticketing. You can install Lite now and upgrade to Pro at any time without losing data — see pricing.
Install with Composer
From your project root, require the package and install the plugin:
composer require justinholtweb/craft-owl
php craft plugin/install owl
The install step runs Owl’s migration, which creates its database tables (calendars, events, occurrences and exceptions). If you use the Plugin Store instead, search for Owl and click Install — Craft handles both steps for you.
After installing
- Open Owl → Calendars and create your first calendar, giving it a colour and any custom fields you need.
- Add an event, optionally with a recurrence rule.
- Render occurrences on the front end with craft.owl.events(), or wire up a calendar view.
The occurrence queue
Owl materialises recurring events into occurrence rows via Craft’s queue, and keeps a rolling horizon topped up. Make sure your queue runs (Craft runs it on web requests by default, or via php craft queue/run / a daemon in production). See Recurrence for details.
